1. Alaska telecommunications companies have gotten some $4.6 billion in federal subsidies over the past decade. But the state’s land-based internet is among the slowest and most expensive in the nation.

2. Alaska’s 2026 high school graduates are looking ahead to the next chapter in their lives. Some plan to stay in Alaska; others are preparing to head out to the Lower 48.

3. State lawmakers passed two bills on the last day of the legislative session aimed at fulfilling requirements of a federal health care expansion effort.

4. As the Arctic takes on greater geopolitical significance, Alaska has assets of interest to the U.S. military: cold climate, for Arctic warfare training, and the Adak military base in the Aleutian Islands.
